Brad Sucks has his own style and unique sound, and carries it off to perfection. That was true for the first album, and is just as true for this new one. Great stuff.

While this music isn’t in one of my preferred genres (I tend to look for darker, more pain-ridden music), I found myself playing both Brad Sucks albums repeatedly out of pure nostalgia. The reason is that the track “Making Me Nervous” from the first album is the default demo track included in the Cockos Reaper music production environment, so I heard it a zillion times while playing around with that software for a while. That left a lasting impression. :-)

While I may not be the target audience, I want to give Brad a big thumbs up for doing what he does so well, and for being a standard bearer for free and open-source music (sources on his site). The Brad Sucks sound is just unmistakeable. Good work. :-)

Dancing Lotus

Lincoln, UK

Lincoln-based Dancing Lotus formed in 2007. Described by Radio One as “that acoustic rap thing”, this seven-piece collective met as students at the University of Lincoln. It wasn’t long before the guys were gigging at venues across the historic city, introducing their unique sound to both students and locals alike.

After only two months together, Lotus were invited on air by BBC Radio Lincolnshire for a live set. After just a year, the band were pronounced the University of Lincoln’s Students’ favourite local band. Such increddible recogniition led to the creation of The Pillow Sessions – a once-monthly show hosted by the band at the Mezz Bar, Lincoln.

Lotus launched their self-produced debut album ‘Live Sessions’ in January 2008 with a full performance in front of a packed Mezz Bar audience. Copies of ‘Live Sessions’ on sale at the event subsequently sold out.
